If a creature infected with the Kharaa Bacterium is placed in an aquarium, the bacterium will infect all other creatures present. ![]() I know I can take young creatures out of the alien containment and release them into the open ocean and they will. Spoiler alert: The following section contains story related material. I am currently in the process of hatching a creature inside of an alien containment aquarium, (More specifically, a cuddlefish.) and when I looked up how long it would take for eggs to hatch, the Subnautica Wiki said young creatures will despawn/die if left alone for too long. Strictly speaking, the aquarium's only purpose is decorative, other than perhaps the feature that the number and types of creatures inside can be seen without having to open the inventory, unlike other storage containers. ![]() Unlike the Alien Containment, fauna will not breed in the Aquarium. I have trouble finding the Reefback, Mesmer and Crab Snake. I also found Rabbit Rays and Gasopods in the Safe Shallows, Shockers in the Koosh, Stalkers in the Kelp and Jellyray in the Mushroom Forrest. The survival of creatures in an aquarium, or any other storage, does not depend on the Seabase or Cyclops having power. I found heaps of boneshark eggs in the Koosh Zone. Though the databank entry mentions the aquarium's automatic environmental regulation sustains the occupants, an aquarium is not actually required to store live animals, which will survive indefinitely in any storage. Only edible creatures can be placed inside. They can be added by clicking on the aquarium to bring up its Inventory menu, and placing the fauna. It can hold up to eight slots of the small Fauna which are categorized as Food. ![]() The PDA gives the player this information instantly no matter where they are, without needing to be. Until they hatch, an egg is labeled as an unknown creature egg, changing to match the name of the creature the egg contained if it hatches inside an Alien Containment. They are the unhatched versions of their respective Fauna. The Aquarium is an Appliance that can be built inside the Cyclops or a Seabase module using a Habitat Builder. Eggs are items found in Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero.
